Third Grade Hopes

Today, the third graders began working on these “Birds of Hope.” I borrowed the idea from New City Arts whose blog writer is an art teacher in Missouri. If you get a chance, check out her blog–it’s incredible!

Here are a few of our birds in the “greenware” stage. After they’re bisque-fired, we’ll add some color!

Hope for more oxygen in our world

Using the idea of birds as a symbol of hope as a jumping off point, we created an enormous idea web on the chalkboard containing all of the things we hope to see more of in our world–we even ran out of space to record all of our wonderful words!

Here is just a snippet of things third graders hope for:

  • Shelter
  • Food
  • Laughter
  • Fun
  • Friendship
  • Wildlife
  • Compassion

What do you hope for?
